The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represent an ambitious plan to enhance peace and prosperity, eradicate poverty and protect the planet. They are recognized globally as essential to the future sustainability of our world. This plan of action calls on the contribution from all elements of society, including local and national governments, business, industry and individuals. To be successful, the process requires consensus, collaboration and innovation.

In 2015, all 193 member countries of the United Nations adopted a resolution known as the “Agenda 2030”. The aim of this agenda is the achievement of sustainable development until 2030, that is the achievement of human development needs across the globe, taking into account the constraints of natural ecosystems. The achievement of the Agenda 2030 is guided by 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or “Global Goals”, which are accompanied by a total of 169 targets and 231 indicators.

In order to fulfill the highly interdependent SDGs, all members of the global community, be that from civil society, intergovernmental bodies, academia or the private sector, are called upon to maximise their respective contributions.
